Pocket Pet Exhibitors FAQ

Entries for Pocket Pets, and all small animals, must be received in the fair office by July 1st.
Hamsters, Gerbils, Guinea Pigs or Chinchillas are the only species that may be exhibited in the Pocket Pet show.
Start out with the basics such as what breed it is, what color or variety it is, the animals approximate age, the sex of the animal.  You want to know any special diets that your species needs to follow.  There is reference material available on line or at your local libraries.

Pocket Pets are shown on the Wednesday of the Fair.  They are judged under the tent between    the Rabbit Barn and the Entry Office.  You may check in under the tent with your animal(s) from  12:00 – 12:45 pm.  The show starts at 1:00pm.  Classes are called following the order in the Fair Book. After the end of the show the exhibits must be removed from the Fairgrounds.
Each exhibitor may make 4 entries into the Pocket Pet area.  Each entry needs to be caged separately with no more than 2 animals per cage. Animals with litters are not allowed.  The Pocket Pet and cage may only be shown in one class by one exhibitor.
Start by handling your Pocket Pet.  The judge will want you to take your Pocket Pet out of the cage if you can.  Make sure to clean the cage.  Try to remove any stains from the cage walls.  Clean the animals feed and water dishes.  Be careful using chemical cleaners as they may be harmful to the animal.  The animal must be shown in the cage that it lives in at home.  Bring fresh feed and water for your Pocket Pet to the fair.
The Pocket Pets will be judged on the animal’s health, the condition and appropriateness of the cage and the exhibitor’s knowledge.  If the cage has tubes, please remove or block off for showing.  The exhibitor should be able to easily remove animal from the cage when instructed to do so.
YES! You need to go to the Entry Office between 8:00 am and 2:00 pm on Sunday (Entry Day), to verify your entry and pick up your pass. You do not need to bring your Pocket Pet on Entry Day.
